If you want to enjoy a vacation in Lanzarote this winter you have a few choices on where to stay. You have the rowdy and busy resort of Puerto del Carmen, chic and playful Puerto Calero and family friendly Playa Blanca. And then there's Costa Teguise which seems to be stuck in the middle of the market.
Costa Teguise is a medium sized resort on Lanzarote. Lanzarote is the third most visited of the Canary Isles, but it's much more quiet than its' more rowdy cousins, Gran Canaria and Tenerife. My week long visit in Costa Teguise in April consisted of long days at the beach and relaxed drinks and meals in the evening.
I loved the variety of bars, pubs and restaurants. Most nights and days we went somewhere different, and were able to enjoy a wide variety of different cuisines, and compare dishes. A lot of the places offer a relaxed environment where you can take your time over meals and enjoy yourself. We also were never turned away from a restaurant, because it was too busy, but I would expect in July or August for restaurants to be far busier.
I have to mention Playa Las Cuchuras. This beach was clean, with a large number of sunbeds and parasols to hire out. These are a custom blue and orange colour. The sea was warm and a crystal clear blue, and the sand was soft and free of litter. I visited at the end of March, so obviously it was a quieter time of year, but there were still lots of sunbeds available and not too busy at all, whilst still relatively warm.
Finally, I loved the Surfwings café bar, and the 241 cocktails during Happy Hour as well as the amazing ice creams. The owners here are friendly and welcoming, and serve good food as well. We often saw meat roasting on a spit. It provides some chill out time, whilst admiring the views and sipping on your freshly made cocktail.
I hope my report on Costa Teguise can entice you to consider the resort on your next vacation to the Canary Isles. Have a safe trip!
